HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Wheelchair access is available – Please call Bec on (08) 9226 1898 prior to your appointment and upon arrival.

Urgent appointments – If you are particularly concerned about a skin lesion or mole please call 1300 277 546 to discuss.

Long appointments – We recommend you book a long appointment if you have more than 50 skins lesions (moles or freckles) that require checking or have a significant area of your body covered with tattoos.

PLEASE BRING TO YOUR APPOINTMENT

Please remember to bring/wear to your appointment the following:

  • Valid – Medicare, Pensioners, Seniors Health or DVA Card
  • A list of your medical conditions
  • A list of any medications or drug allergies
  • Wear comfortable clothing that can easily be removed
  • Avoid wearing make-up, fake tan or nail polish if possible.

Please note – For skin checks, you will be required to remove clothing down to underwear to help facilitate adequate examination. Please make sure you are dressed appropriately to facilitate this. Clinical photographs of skin lesions may be taken with your consent for documentation purposes.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT

The following happens during a typical 15-20 minute appointment:

  • Background history to asses your risk of skin cancer
  • Discuss any previous skin cancer issues or concerns
  • Undertake a full skin check using a skin microscope
  • Moles or lesions that have any unusual features will be photographed for future comparison
  • Any suspicious moles or lesions will trigger a treatment plan.

Please remember – Wear comfortable clothing that can easily be removed and avoid wearing make-up, fake tan or nail polish if possible.

All clear – If you have an ‘all clear’ check we will send you a reminder for your next skin check appointment as appropriate.

TREATMENT PLAN

Any suspicious moles or lesions will be discussed and a treatment plan made. This may include a biopsy, a topical cream, close monitoring, a procedure or a referral to a specialist.

Simple biopsies or treatments such as cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen) may be treated in the same appointment.

FEES

Please pay your account at the conclusion of your appointment.

If you are eligible for the Medicare rebate, fees are as follows:

  • Standard appointment – $85 | Medicare rebate $38.20 | Out of pocket $46.80
  • Long appointment – $140 | Medicare rebate $73.95 | Out of pocket $66.05

Long appointments – We recommend you book a long appointment if you have more than 50 skins lesions (moles or freckles) that require checking or have a significant area of your body covered with tattoos.

IF YOU REQUIRE A PROCEDURE

If you require a procedure, then you will be notified of the cost and potential Medicare rebate applicable prior to the procedure. Some procedures may not attract a Medicare rebate, for example mole removal for cosmetic reasons.

BULK BILLING – HEALTH CARD HOLDERS

Age pensioners and DVA Card holders will be bulk-billed for all appointments and procedures where a Medicare rebate is applicable. You will need to show an appropriate card in order to be bulk billed otherwise private fees apply.

BIOPSIES FOR MEDICARE CARD HOLDERS

Any biopsies taken on the day of appointment will be bulk-billed to Medicare.

REFUND POLICY

Please pay your account at the conclusion of your appointment. If you have any questions or issues with our service, please discuss these during your appointment or at the conclusion of your appointment. Once payment is made services are not refundable unless required by Australian Consumer Law.
